Google Translate Serbia Tool-Should Human Translators Worry

Author:

Informasi-teknologi.com-“Machine translation”. Translator afraid to hear those words! This is partly disgusted, because strongly believe that computers will never replace human translators superior (like us!), partly because we’re scared stiff that he will! So we will use the tricks of the cantankerous machine, or with carefully follow the subject and hope, for example, that our customers would not know about the translation tool Serbian-English-Serbian, who have recently available for free on Google (link below)!

Because the fact is that Google’s translation tool, which now provides automatic translation into English of the Serbian website and a copy of the block copy of the text of Serbia, really surprising (we will not Discuss the Tool’s Translation English-Serbian in this article, namely the google direction, as it is quite terrible now)!

Rather than acting as if it does not exist, we think it is better to get this subject out in the open and examine the implications for Corporate clients and Translation to the Translation industry in general. So this will be the first in what is planned to be a series of articles looking at automatic and machine translation, both in the context of translation Serbian-English and translation in general. In this article we will look briefly at the quality of the auto-Google Serbian-English Translation and explain why we don’t think of translators and Translation Companies to work on the Serbian-English should be too worried for their livelihoods now.

An example of google’s Serbian English translation

Let’s do a little experiment first. We take a paragraph of text Serbia (taken from the Wikipedia article Serbia) and put it into the Google’s translation tool Serbia-English.

A human translations from Serbian to English would read something like this:

A translation memory consists of text segments in a source language and their translations into one or more target languages. This segment can be a verse, a paragraph, a sentence or phrase. Individual words is not handled by the memories of the translation, this is handled with the base terminology. Research has shown that many companies use multilingual documents using translation systems based on memory.

In a few seconds, Google translational output of the following translation into English:

Translation memory consists of a segment of text in the original language and their translations into one or more target languages. This segment can be a verse, a paragraph, a sentence or phrase. Individual words not in the field of translation memory, but they deal with a data base terminoloske. Research shows that many companies have a system of documentation multiplingual which is used to translate the memory.

Can you understand it? In spite of some problems the translator must be in identify construction passive/active and unknown words, of course you can! This is certainly much better than the translator tool Serbian-English we’ve tried before. If You look at what a machine translation style of old (who will remain nameless) did in this paragraph, perhaps You can begin to appreciate how good Google Translate:

Prevodilacka store sastoji own off segmenata textual on izvornom jeziku also njihovog prevoda on unity is at the top ciljanih jezika. Segmenti it may lie flashing, pasusi, recenice is a fraud. Pojedinacne reci not from domenu prevodilacke memorije, vec alone for they bave terminoloske baze. Istra%u017Eivanja pokazuju should mnoge kompanije wo there visejezicku dokumentacijeeme with memorodilackomijom.

Sorry? It’s supposed to be English, if you’re wondering! And no, we’re not doctors by any means! Also, if anyone can tell us what “flinders” is, then they know English more than we are!

Google translation may not succeed with all the text as with this one, but certainly a big improvement over the examples in almost all cases! So maybe the translator should think twice before shrink machine translation from Serbian to English (and other languages, if this is anything to go).

What makes Google translate different?

Google’s system is slightly different with the machine translation of the previous in that it uses statistical methods to analyze the translations from Serbian to English and apply what has been learned to new text. A system of old-style just use the dictionary to translate word-for-word by the “violence” and not likely to be very successful.

However, it should be noted that Google itself has admitted that the statistical methods they have now hit a wall that reduces the back and it is unlikely that, as the technology currently stands, the standard translation will be able to increase awesome, and it’s not just for Serbia and the Uk, but for all language combinations.

Translator death to human translators?

So what are we crazy to tell you all this? Anyway, translation Companies rely on the work of human translators! What happens if all Your clients go and start Using Google Translate free of cost? Indeed, we have seen an example of translators Amateur supplying the “translations from Serbian to English” that has clearly been done using this tool! Only a matter of time before the Company of the Translation start receiving text “previously translated” (the text of which is suspected similar to Google translations!) of the client and asked to “only proof-read this” to a level much lower than translation from scratch will cost.

Well, we want to talk about some of the reasons why You and Your clients should know about Google Translate to Serbian and English and why we think the Company’s Translation does not need to be afraid for their business:

Translation business must appreciate the transparency and strive to work in the realities of the market – it does not make sense long-term business to “hide” a valuable resource like this from our clients! In addition, they will find out sooner or later! On the contrary, we must accept the fact that tools such as this bring to the Translation industry-the market will always change and we must be ready to adapt, not cling to the fact that outdated.

We should want Our customers to Use Google Translate for translation Serbian-English! After all, the vision of a Translation Company should allow their customers to communicate with other markets and cultures. So if this tool help clients who only understand English to understand the text in Serbia, then You will certainly go some way to achieving this vision!

But the core of the problem and the reason why Translation Companies do not have nothing to “Fear” from the Google Translation is what You have to have the suspension for this: computerized, automatic translation will not replace human translation professionals from Serbian to English (or other languages) in the near future. Or let’s phrase it as a question: do you, as a marketing manager, say, a Serbian company want to do business in the West, entrust the translation of YOUR Site or magazines to English translation tool? The simple reality is that, no, You will not.

This is not necessarily to drop translation tool automatically – they are after all the target soft for our human translators superior! They may also have their application, and we can discuss this in another article. This is only to say that any business that is serious about the market a given, considering the quality of the current translation engine, will settle only for Professional, human translations promotional materials. After all, we say google’s Serbian English translation it is good, but it’s not good! Even it’s not nearly good enough.

Maybe in future articles we will also look at some of the differences between machine translation and human translation, and delve into some of the reasons why, despite the remarkable progress, and the positive things we have said about Google Translate, automatic translation software is not currently a serious choice for professional translation – from Serbian to English or any other language combination – and why it probably never will. Indeed, we have some deep concern about the Possible abuse of a tool like this, in an environment where even now the translation is often not taken seriously enough
